Teach all children to respect ALL dogs. Do not expect a dog to tolerate children's bad behavior.  Keep both your dog and child safe. This does not apply to all dogs and children but please be cautious with your animals and children. Please do not leave your child alone with your fur baby just to be on the safe side.

Do not allow:
  • ear pulling
  • tail pulling
  • smacking/hitting such as muzzle slapping
  • sitting or standing on
  • hovering over (doing so mimic's canine domination behavior)
  • tug-a-war (do not encourage a dog to challenge you)
  • rough play
  • startle  a sleeping dog
  • playing chase - can cause the dog to nip, like they do playing with littermates
We put a lot of effort into our puppies to produce calm dogs.  People tend to keep calm dogs and not reactive ones. Therefore, we caution against rough play such as tug- a- war with the dog.  Its ok when playing with other dogs but do not want to promote that type of play with humans. You do not want to encourage a dog to challenge you.

Rough play, such as batting the dog's face back and forth with your hand encourages the dog "to go for your hand."  Let me share a personal story. While living out in the country, I was standing out in the yard one day when a pack of loose dogs came running through the yard. One of the four dogs, a Doberman, ran right up to me and grabbed one of my hands. Instinctively, I wanted to pull my hand out of its mouth. But didn't do so. If I had done that, I could have injured my hand, and then the situation could have been misread as the dog having bit me. Again, we do not encourage rough play with one's hands.
